Forcing Outlook to download all IMAP emails

Posted on 27 April 2013 by Beaming Support

With Outlook configured for an IMAP account you may have issues with full emails not being downloaded. Here’s how to force Outlook to download all IMAP emails.

Outlook may be set to just download email headers so you will not see full emails that have been sent to you. To ensure that full emails are displayed (not just headers), you will need to force Outlook to download all IMAP emails.

Do bear in mind that if you have a lot of emails in the mailbox then making this change to download the full emails may take a while to complete.

Please follow the below process to enable this change of settings:

  • Navigate on to ‘Send/Receive Settings’ then click on ‘Define Send/ReceiveGroups…’.
  • You will need to select ‘Edit’. After using ‘Edit’ you should see the Send/Receive Settings/ window.

This window will allow you to select the behaviour of sending and receiving. You can set Outlook to download complete emails with attachments rather than just headers. This will then take effect permanently and Outlook will receive emails as they were sent.
