Transfer Microsoft Word macros and templates to a new computer

Posted on 1 February 2016 by Beaming Support

You may need to transfer Microsoft Word macros and templates to a new computer in order to keep your preferred personalisation.

In order to transfer Microsoft Word macros and templates to a new computer, you would need to navigate to the templates folder on the current PC / Server, located here:

C:Users[username]AppDataRoamingMicrosoftTemplates

There you will find a file called:

Normal.dotm

This file holds all the information on templates, shortcuts or Macros that you have created previously.

You will need to copy Normal.dotm onto the new PC/server installation to the same address path, replacing the Normal.dotm that is currently there.

The next time that Word is opened, you will see any document templates that you have created available to select. Any Macro’s or keyboard shortcuts will also be available once you have selected the template.
