Ask the Experts: Cisco Secure Endpoint Explained
Posted on 9 June 2025 by Beaming SupportYour endpoints, such as laptops, desktops, servers and IoT devices, are prime targets for malware, ransomware, and phishing attacks. Each device can be a liability in a malicious threat entering your whole business network. But that’s where Cisco Secure Endpoint, managed by Beaming, comes in.
Here, we’re answering questions we’ve received when implementing Cisco Secure Endpoint across many different customers recently.
- Why do I need to protect Endpoints?
An endpoint is a computing device that communicates back and forth with the network it is connected to, and these devices are a vulnerability. Cyber criminals target endpoints in isolation as a gateway to access your company network. Once a device is compromised they can work laterally to access other devices, or work further in to the network, remaining undetected by you.
Beaming’s cyber threat analysis shows cyberattacks on company networks persist at a consistently high rate and it is not relenting. We know the current geopolitical climate is volatile, alongside many recent high-profile cyber-attacks hitting the headlines as well. Protecting your Endpoints is more critical now than ever.
- What does Cisco Secure Endpoint do?
Cisco Secure Endpoint is a complete detection and response software that goes beyond traditional antivirus. It scans all activity (not just files) to detect and block abnormal behaviour in real-time. It doesn’t sit and wait for threats to strike, it hunts, detects and blocks abnormalities sooner than other products.
It is powered by Cisco’s unique insights from over 300,000 security customers worldwide it has unique insights enabling them to deal with threats much earlier in the infiltration stage. When a threat is detected, it is immediately blocked across the platform, and detailed information is sent back to a central console for further forensic analysis
- What will it protect my business from?
Cisco Secure Endpoint provides protection from many forms of cyber threats, including:
Advanced Malware & Viruses: It stops sophisticated threats, including those that constantly change their appearance or hide in your system’s memory, by actively monitoring behaviour on your devices.
Ransomware: It can prevent ransomware from encrypting your vital data and demanding payment by detecting and neutralising attacks early.
Zero-Day Attacks: Even when new software weaknesses emerge, Cisco Secure Endpoint proactively identifies and blocks these unknown threats by observing unusual activity in real-time.
Phishing & Web Threats: Working alongside other defences, it acts as a crucial layer, blocking threats from malicious links or infected downloads.
AI Supply Chain Attacks: With the growing use of AI, it will safeguard your business from malicious elements embedded within AI tools or data, and keeps up-to-date with new and emerging technologies without any additional work for you.
Memory Injection & Exploits: It specifically prevents attacks that attempt to inject harmful code into your system’s memory or exploit vulnerable software.
Insider Threats & Lateral Movement: By continuously monitoring all activity, it detects suspicious behaviour that could signal insider threats or prevent a breach from spreading across your network.
- Who is Cisco Secure Endpoint best for?
We manage Endpoint for many different businesses, but we would especially recommend it for those where the following applies:
You operate in a vulnerable sector, If your team work in an environment or industry that is commonly targeted, Endpoint can reduce risk as, compared to other Anti-Virus software. Although, we could argue, in today’s threat landscape the majority of sectors are vulnerable.
Employees work across various locations Workers on premise as well as remote workers will have the same level of protection. In the case of a device operating “offline”, the locally installed client can still take corrective action until a connection to the cloud is re-established.
You have blended infrastructure Secure Endpoint can be ideal for both organisations that have a hybrid environment, on-premise and cloud, as well as those moving to a cloud-first strategy.
You have to meet compliance requirements. Secure Endpoint can help comply with industry regulations and data protection laws, as well as assist with cyber insurance requirements
- Are there any alternative product options?
Cisco secure Endpoint is a unique solution with advance protection features, the balance of capabilities, performance and price make it the ideal solution.
There are other solutions such a Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Cisco Secure Endpoint aims to provide comprehensive protection across various operating systems and integrate with Cisco’s extensive threat intelligence.
We also recommend a multi layered approach that includes endpoint security, firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, and other security solutions. Cisco provides a broad portfolio of security products, read this post explaining why using both Endpoint and Cisco Umbrella, combined together provide superior protection.
- How quickly will this be installed and is there any downtime?
Once you have agreed to go ahead, one of our technical experts will prepare the Cisco client for your specific environment. Once the client is prepared, it’s a simple case of a remote session and installation of the software, this take under 5 minutes per device. There is no downtime as this is installed whilst the devices are running and online, which we can schedule when convenient to your business.
- Will Endpoint use any additional resources?
Cisco Secure Endpoint, like any additional software, does take up a some level of resource on your device. It is however designed to be efficient and therefore should have very minimal impact to the endpoint performance.
- Do I need Beaming to manage it?
Beaming will make sure your products are configured correctly and integrated in to your individual environment. We know that managing multiple security products can seem complex, but by handing the responsibility to Beaming, you can have confidence that our team have the necessary skills and experience to ensure everything is working how it should, and you are as protected as possible.
- How much does it cost?
Each licence is £4.50 per month.
