Problems renewing AVG subscription

Posted on 1 April 2019 by Beaming Support

Renewal of an AVG subscription can usually be done easily by accessing the application and choosing Menu, Settings and then Subscription. However, you may experience an issue if the subscription expires before your renewal.

This can prevent you from accessing the application to get to the area where you would enter the new subscription details. The message advises the subscription has expired and to contact an administrator but this will not help as administrator accounts are also unable to access the application.

This is a very frustrating problem!

The only way around it is to uninstall the current version and reinstall it, but you need to complete one more step in between uninstalling and reinstalling AVG.

After uninstalling the software you will be required to run the AVG Clear tool to remove all associated AVG files and registry items. If you don’t run the Clear tool some files or registry items remain on the computer and the installer will think that the software is already there.  It won’t allow you to install a new AVG application until they are removed.

Download the clear tool here

There is a warning advising:

AVG Clear deletes all files associated with your AVG product, including registry items, installation files, and user files. Only use this if your AVG uninstall or repair has failed repeatedly.

Once the Clear tool has completed its job you should then be able to reboot your computer and install again without issue.
