Why has my Windows 10 Search bar disappeared?

Posted on 9 October 2020 by Beaming Support

If your desktop looks different, with the usual search bar at the bottom missing and big square app icons, you’ve probably put your laptop into tablet mode by accidentally pressing the Windows key + A on your keyboard. There will probably be a back arrow at the bottom of the screen and an “invisible” taskbar going up the left-hand side of the screen.

What is tablet mode and why is it on my computer?

Tablet mode is there for laptops which are able to switch between being a laptop and a tablet, so it is helpful for those people who have bought something along those lines, but for someone who does not have a laptop which is able to turn into a tablet, it is not very helpful (Unless you happen to prefer the layout).

If you have accidently turned tablet mode on your laptop on, do not worry, it’s easy to switch it back.

How do I turn tablet mode off?

  1. Move your mouse to the bottom right of your screen on the taskbar, where you will find at the very far right an icon that looks like a box.
  2. Click the box and options will come up
  3. Click “Tablet mode” and after a short period of time, the computer will change back to your desktop!

And that’s it, all fixed.
