Microsoft Windows and Server Operating System End of Life Dates

Posted on 6 January 2017 by Beaming Support

Microsoft will officially end support for Windows 7, Office 2010 and Windows Server 2008 in 2020 . They will no longer provide security updates or bug fixes for this software.

What does this mean? It means that if any new bugs or exploits are found then they will remain unpatched by Microsoft, leaving your computer potentially open to new attacks.

Furthermore, ignoring the security aspects for a moment, with Microsoft no longer supporting Windows 7, how many manufacturers are going to continue to provide new hardware and software that is compatible with it? It is likely that new drivers for printers and updates for other software will not be forthcoming.

By 14/1/2020 everyone running Windows Server 2008 should have migrated to Windows Server 2012 or higher.

In the table below you can see the current dates that Microsoft will be ending support for various operating systems:

Operating System End of Life Date
Windows Vista 11/4/2017
Office 2007 10/10/2017
Windows Server 2008 14/1/2020
Windows 7 14/1/2020
Office 2010 13/10/2020
Windows Server 2012 10/1/2023
Windows 8/8.1 10/1/2023
Office 2013 11/4/2023
Windows 10 14/10/2025
Office 2016 14/10/2025

This will give you an idea of how much time you have left on the product you decide to upgrade to.
